Senior Systems Administrator

Job Profile:

The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for administering and maintaining network, server, workstation (desktop/laptop) and telecommunications services and security including 24x7 mission critical network and systems. This person will oversee commercial, research, laboratory and desktop systems, monitor and report on the status of these systems and provide employee support. In this role, he/she must be available to respond rapidly and efficiently to system problems and provide support to both local and remote users. This position will be based in Brisbane, CA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, administer and maintain the LAN/WAN/Virtual infrastructure
  • Design, document and maintain company network policies and procedures
  • Ensure that security issues are addressed in a timely and efficient manner, remediate issues related to hacking, viruses, protection of sensitive data, etc.
  • Administer and maintain network, server and workstation integrity (including access controls)
  • Provide training to employees and consultants on the use of company computer systems and ensure proper information security is maintained.
  • Serves as an internal information security consultant to the organization and work closely with the company HIPAA consultant
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve any and all computer and network operational issues
  • Review all system-related security plans throughout the company
  • Work closely with software developers and other IT staff to support corporate infrastructure and software applications in a production environment
  • Support enterprise level email, web and DNS
  • Schedule and perform RDBMS and other system backups and installations to ensure data safety and availability
  • Advise the organization on current best practices with regard to information security technologies and related regulatory issues
  • Manage IT budget including inventory management, capital forecasting and project planning
  • Create and maintain long-term strategic IT plan
  • Work closely with Facilities to provide input to the overall company Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Routinely audit network desktops, servers and other equipment to identify security risks and manage the cost and efficiency of the current computing and network infrastructure
  • Manage external suppliers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or relevant employment experience
  • At least 5 years in Cisco Administration (CCNP strongly suggested) using ASA/PIX and Catalyst devices
  • Strong background in VMware vSphere and View (VCP suggested) with demonstrated knowledge of Storage VMotion and clustering with DRS
  • At least 5 years in Linux administration (DHCP, DNS, OS rebuilds, DRBD/HA or other redundant failover, IPTables, SELinux)
  • Knowledge of proven IPS/IDS technologies
  • At least 5 years in Windows System Administration (MCSE/MCITP a plus)
  • Exchange Server 2007, Active Directory (mixed-mode), DHCP, WINS, Radius, SSLVPN and DNS expertise
  • IIS and Apache Web Server management
  • Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining disaster recovery procedures, infrastructure and sites
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH Act and Safe Harbor guidelines and implementation is a plus
  • Certification in network security and experience with Triton Web Security/Websense desired
  • Experience in biotechnology or genomics environments is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability and strong desire to work in a cross-functional, highly interactive scientific and business oriented environment
